Bill truly believes in the importance of getting involved in your community. In order to become someone who can make a difference, after throwing his hat in the ring to serve on Town Council, he was elected to a 4-year term in the fall of 2017.

"It has been a terrifically educational experience," he says. "I like to learn, and I have definitely learned at lot - about how municipal government works, about the interactions between the various levels of government, and about the people of our community."

There have been many highlights in my term:

  • Completion of the Rosebud Stanitary Trunk Line.
  • The amalgamation of Didsbury Neighbourhood Place, Family and Community Support Services and (at the time) Mountain View Parent Link all into one location with the Town Hall, a substantial savings in rental costs.
  • Working in partnership with the Didsbury Municipal Library Board on the Library expansion - a build that comes this year.
  • Paid off the Aquatic Centre's 25-year old debenture.
  • Prepared for and executed the RCMP K Division's transition to municipal-paid policing.
  • Final build of the new lagoon which will accommodate a population increase to 10,000.
  • Ribbon cutting for our new Firehall.
  • 20th Avenue reconstruction of new pavement, lighting, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and sewer line lining.

  • Completed the Butte Pumphouse upgrades.
  • Decision on a clear direction of the components to be included in the Complex Outlying Plan and addition of those components to the Multi-year Capital Plan.
  • Upgraded 23rd Street with new pavement, sidewalks, curb and gutter and storm sewer.
  • Maintenance and upgrade of the Curling Rink Roof.
  • Maintenance and upgrade of the Multipurpose Room and Complex Lobby Roof.
  • Solar pedestrian crossing lights on 23rd Street at 20th Ave, 23rd Street at 23rd Ave and 20th Ave at 16th Street.
  • After 10 years, the first of several new businesses in Shantz Crossing constructed and now open. Two more on the construction docket with more to come.
  • Hands-on fun helping build the new playground at Valarosa.
  • A fun break from the governance responsibility was riding along on the CP Holiday Train.
  • 20th Street drainage/road rehab from 15th Ave to 17th Ave and extention of the heritage lighting from 19th Ave to 15 Ave.
  • 10th Street paving north of Hwy 582 to Valarosa Drive.
  • 15th Ave stormwater main extention.
  • East water reservoir land acquisition and design.
  • Westhill Place sanitary service line replacement.
  • Establishment of Didsbury's Economic Development Steering Committee - a committee to define DEDAC and recommend initial DEDAC members.
  • Startup of the Didsbury Economic Development Advisory Committee (DEDAC) - a committee of Council made up of residents who have volunteered their time to advise on economic development in town.
  • Hosting the Netherlands band as they rehearsed in our arena proir to the Calgary Stampede Marching Band Competition. Plus the national Men's Curling Team from Russia and, of course, the filming of movies "Let Him Go" and "Land" - while not Council initiatives, we certainly supported Administration with meeting the requirements of the film crews. Our businesses had great fun with the actors and crews as well.
  • Not only the Arena roof which came in way under budget, but the entire surfaces of both skating surfaces were replaced with new heating and board systems.
  • A new playground in Westheights with another new one slated for this year at the Memorial Complex, the Jets Playground.
  • The brand new Skatepark to begin construction in spring with proposed completion prior to the summer break.
